Is annual cover good for the Over 85s?
November 2009
By now, whenever you plan a big trip, travel insurance is a routine concern. Depending on where you're going, the kind of trip you're taking and your personal circumstances, you may well need some combination of trip-cancellation and medical insurance, at a minimum. You may want baggage loss, delay, and other coverage as well.
And you typically pay for insurance by the trip. But if you travel a lot -- or for long stretches -- you might be better off with year-round insurance. Although long-term travel insurance sales pitches tend to concentrate on business travelers who spend a lot of time on the road, many of you leisure travelers -- including seniors, students, and individuals caring for sick relatives -- may spend a good part of the year traveling. Especially if much of that travel is outside the UK, you may need ongoing coverage. And if you travel as much as some of the seniors and students I know do, a long-term program may beat individual-trip insurance.
